As much as I like the song and hope it gets nominated, I remain very skeptical that it will. However, my skepticism isn’t even with the possible disqualification; it’s based on history. In total, only three Bond songs have ever been nominated, and they’ve all lost. Not only that, but the last song to be nominated, “For Your Eyes Only”, remains the last time any Bond film was nominated for an Oscar, including technicals. The Academy didn’t even go for “Casino Royale”, even though it was a critical and commercial success and was even a huge hit at the BAFTAs (Best Actor and Adapted Screenplay nods). Considering this series hasn’t received a nomination for any category, let alone for Song, in the past thirty years makes me cautious to predict this one.

I wouldn’t call it a classic, but it’s certainly very good and the best they’ve had in a long time, along with being the first Bond song in years to actually be worthy of a nomination…I have my doubts that they’ll actually go for it, but I’m crossing my fingers and perhaps foolishly predicting it as well.

An absolute crime if they do not nominate this. Brilliant homage to the classic Bond theme, with Adele standing front and center, making old sounds fresh and new again.
