I’m sure the millions of fans of the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy have been clutching their nipple clamps and silver ties searching for any news on the production of the film. Well today Twitter helped alleviate some of the pain (but don’t these fans like…never mind) with writer E.L. James announcing on the popular social network that Kelly Marcel would be in charge of adapting her novel. Marcel, for those unfamiliar, wrote the pilot for Terranova and the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks about the production of Mary Poppins

As someone who has read the trilogy, I find the commotion/excitement about the writer both funny and sad. No matter who is writing the movie, or whom they cast, unless the studio goes for an NC-17 (they won’t) this will probably be a watered down mess. Considering there is already a porn adaptation of the book, what good is a real movie? That said if Kelly can improve on the writing (not very difficult since E.L. James isn’t a great writer) and avoids voiceover (much more difficult to do), this should serve as a passable film.
