Continuing with 31 Days of Horror, we are dedicating this week’s Circuit 3 to ranking our favorite movie serial killers! Maybe you prefer the supernatural kind that wear hockey masks and haunt places like Camp Crystal Lake, or the type that wield chainsaws wearing masks made from human skin. Perhaps you like something more realistic like a brilliant psychiatrist who tends to eat his own patients. You might even enjoy a good balance in your serial killer diet.  Regardless which way you go, be sure to leave your three in the comments and have a look at my picks after the jump.

My Circuit 3 for Movie Serial Killers:

    1.  Dr. Hannibal Lecter – played by Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Hannibal (2001), and Red Dragon (2002)
    2.  Norman Bates – played by Anthony Perkins in Psycho (1960)
    3.  Patrick Bateman – played by Christian Bale in American Psycho (2000)

    About Mark Johnson

Lover of all things film and Oscar. Fantasy sports’ equivalent of George Steinbrenner. Your very own Han Solo, making friends all over the movie-loving galaxy in spite of himself. When he’s not ranking just about everything or dominating boardgames, Mark is breaking down the Oscar race 24/7 with Rain Man-like stats and knowledge. In his downtime, you can find him commiserating with other Northeast Ohio sports fans because a hero isn’t complete without a little heartbreak. If Lost, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Survivor are your style, then congratulations, you have something in common with this inglourious basterd.

    3. 1. John Doe, Se7en…Kevin Spacey, 1995
      2. Patrick Bateman, American Psycho…Christian Bale, 2000
      3. Mickey and Mallory Knox, Natural Born Killers…Woody Harrelson/ Juliette Lewis, 1994

Anthony Perkins and Hopkins were in the running but Perkins wasn’t scary enough for me and Hopkins never really “serial” killed in the Silence of the Lambs…had to completely eliminate the monster based serial killers like Jason, Michael, and Freddy…wanted to select reality based serial killers and these are my top choices with different representations of serial/ mass murder killing

    8. Do we know that Norman Bates is a serial killer? We know he has killed a few people, but does he actually fit the definition, compared to others mentioned?
