  • Better At It – Danette Herman

Danette Herman's brief journey to her present placement...

    October 23, 2012

Having been wrangling talent for years, it was an honor for Danette Herman to be chosen as the coordinating producer for the 2013 Academy Awards. Having served the 79th Academy Awards as the co-producer, Herman was assigned the coordinating producer for the 83rd Academy Awards. With her experience and connections, Herman coordinated an amazing ceremony, but was replaced for the 84th Academy Awards, only, later, to be reinstated for the 85th. Oscar producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, first signed Herman as a consultant for the 84th, but, two replacements later, they decided she was right for the role due to her connections and instincts when it came to getting the job done.

For Herman, this is a huge step of recognition for her accomplishments and capabilities. For all women, serving in the industry, there is a similar sense of pride that one of their own is being recognized as better suited for a prestigious position than all others. From where I stand and applaud, Herman’s accomplishments and efforts are on the same level as the recognition and honor Kathryn Bigelow received from the Academy. Different stages, different circumstances, but the same outcome; with the right woman on top.
