Well you certainly can’t accuse them of just blindly remaking the original. The red band teaser trailer for Evil Dead has arrived online and it’s some sick stuff. Shedding the camp of the original film (and #22 horror film of all time) The Evil Dead, this film seems to focus on uber-violence and a Saw-like green aesthetic to derive it’s scares. Following the same story as the original, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival. Check out the bloody trailer after the jump!

      • Those cackling ghouls and Bruce Campbell’s affected performance in the first one are just as campy…but this trailer makes those movies look like a Saturday morning cartoon.

    2. I don’t know how I feel about this. The first one, as comical as it presents itself (it feels like they had an unlimited budget on red corn syrup and went bananas,) it’s one of those films that feels scary because of its lack of professionalism or artistry. It is low culture at its finest. The trailer feels like this could be really scary, but it also looks like they’re forcing it a little. I’d loved to be proven wrong. The Evil Dead remains a favorite film of mine, but if putting a modern spin on it can provide something new, I’m all for it.
