    2. Since it’s Halloween week, what was the first movie to truly terrify you? For me, it was the 1974 original version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It helped that it was a non-professional cast and a relatively younger crew who didn’t gloss the film up to look like an MTV movie…ala the 2003 Michael Bay-produced version

    4. I think The Artist is the least deserving Oscar winner in a long time.
Jean Dujardin was the least deserving of the nominees.
If The Artist didn’t win any Oscars would the winners have been?
      Best Picture: Hugo
      Best Directing: Martin Scorsese, Hugo
Best Lead Actor: George Clooney, The Descendants or Brad Pitt, Money Ball
Best Original Score: John Williams, War Horse
      Best Costume Design: Hugo

    6. What are your feelings when you hear an actor is making their directorial debut? Are you eager to see what they skills as an actor they can use in becoming a filmmaker or are you skeptical that they’ll be able to make the transition successfully? Are there any actors who have yet to make a directorial debut that you’d be interested in seeing one of their films?

    8. Ben Affleck and George Clooney are easily the best actors turned directors out there today. Who are some other ones who you think have proven to do both great? Aside from Ron Howard, Robert Redford, Sydney Pollack, Richard Attenborough.

    10. I saw The Sapphires at the Gold Coast International Film Festival last night. A very good, if not great, movie that could find its way into a Best Picture race similar to The Help or The Blind Side. Feel good dramas, like these films, usually need strong box office numbers to help their Oscar chances. Although a big box office success in Australia, this film would probably need to build word-of-mouth in the US. Since it has not been released, it would seem that 2012 Oscars are out of the question. Would the Weinsteins move its release to 2013? If so, what time of year would be best?

As an aside, Silver Linings Playbook was shown at the Festival on Thursday. A good film with many great performances. Unforutnately, it was weaker than its source material. The changes in the last third made for a much more traditional ending. This was surprising given the director/screenwriter. For me, Perks of Being a Wallflower was a much more emotional and powerful film and more true to its novel.
