As awards season gets underway and many of my fellow East Coasters try to bounce back from a very dreadful week full of power outages and moisture, the Broadcast Film Critics Association give a little light for movie lovers. During the Critics Choice Movie Awards, which are scheduled to air January 10, 2013 on the CW, the organization has chosen to give award and film enthusiasts from all areas a chance to have their voice heard. The critics group has introduced a new category, “Favorite Film Franchise,” which will be voted on by the public.
It will be up to the BFCA membership to choose up to ten film franchises to be thrown into the mix and following, the reins will be given to YOU, all movie and award lovers, and have the opportunity to choose your favorite franchise. There may be some obvious choices like “The Lord of the Rings” and/or “James Bond” to choose from but what about some that fly under the radar that deserve recognition?
Once the nominees are announced, the BFCA will reach out via websites and other outlets for fans to vote. The winner will then be revealed LIVE during the ceremony.
What franchises should make the final cut? Is there room for Catniss or Edward and Bella? Would love to hear your thoughts!
Make sure to tune into the first televised award show of the year on January 10, 2013 on the CW at 8pm Eastern Time.

Interactive voting… I’m surprised the Academy hasn’t done that yet. Given Skyfall’s reception is it too safe to declare Bond an early winner?

I think James Bond is definitely in the running. Not sure if it has a huge popular following that would push out in front over Batman, Lord of the Rings, etc.

An awards body that calls itself Critics Choice jumping on the MTV awards bandwagon and offering “fans” to vote for the BESTEST franchise is pretty shallow and increadibly self defeating.

I call a three way tie between Underworld, Resident: Evil, and Twilight. But seriously, are there even ten franchises worth nominating? I bet the Nolan Batman trilogy takes it all the way, regardless of who else is nominated.

I don’t think its just for franchises released this year. I’m not 100% sure about that but I’m looking into it. If that’s the case, Star Wars is jumping to the top of my list.
I’m sure the Harry Potter kids will resurrect again.

If it can be any franchise, my choices would be:
Star Wars (original)
Die Hard
The Godfather
Back to the Future
Indiana Jones
If it can count, Iron Man and the films that lead up to The Avengers.
