Over the next few months to a year, many rumors will start circulating the web about who will be starring/writing/directing the upcoming “Untitled Star Wars Episode VII” film due out in 2015. Anne Thompson of Thompson on Hollywood and Beth Hanna are reporting that director Matthew Vaughn, most responsible for directing X-Men: First Class (2011), Kick-Ass (2010), and Layer Cake (2004) is rumored to being considered for the project.
We discussed on last week’s Power Hour with Edward Douglas of Coming Soon which directors we would like to see direct the new generation of Star Wars, Vaughn was not mentioned in that discussion. While many think a director at Disney like Brad Bird or Andrew Stanton might be first in line to be picked, I think they may go with something out of left field like JJ Abrams or Greg Mottola. Recently I mentioned a cool choice like Guillermo del Toro but perhaps Neil Burger (The Illusionist), Neill Blomkamp (District 9), or Tom Tywker (Run Lola Run) as some to revamp the franchise.
It’s also mentioned in the piece that Harrison Ford is open to playing Han Solo again if asked. All I can say is, please God, spare us a 70-year old Han Solo.
Who would like to see direct the upcoming Star Wars film?

He certainly wouldn’t be a bad choice if it winds up being him…

Matthew Vaughn would be a fine choice. The one person I’d really love to see take on a Star Wars film is Darren Aronofsky. Neil Blonkamp would be a cool choice too. Of course, Abrams would do the series justice, to say the least.
