Just as the NYFCC and the NBR did before it, the Boston Online Film Critics Association has bestowed top honors to Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty. I think it’s safe to say that Bigelow’s film about the greatest manhunt in US history is shaping up to be the critics’ darling of the year. Is ZDT about to do what The Social Network did a couple years ago? Do these early wins make it the film to beat come Oscar time? You can visit the BOFCA website here, and see the rest of the winners after the jump.

    About Mark Johnson

Lover of all things film and Oscar. Fantasy sports’ equivalent of George Steinbrenner. Your very own Han Solo, making friends all over the movie-loving galaxy in spite of himself. When he’s not ranking just about everything or dominating boardgames, Mark is breaking down the Oscar race 24/7 with Rain Man-like stats and knowledge. In his downtime, you can find him commiserating with other Northeast Ohio sports fans because a hero isn’t complete without a little heartbreak. If Lost, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Survivor are your style, then congratulations, you have something in common with this inglourious basterd.

    1. Will go see this the same way some children eat spinach and I know my resistance comes from thinking the last ten + years of war have been just so much jingoistic BS and that I greeted the actual raid with “meh”. Still none of those attitudes mean that you can’t make a great movie about a distasteful subject. The fact that The Master and Cloud Atlas are on their 10 best list and Les Miserables is not, doesn’t say much for the group itself.

      • Les Mis is actually not being universally praised as people expected. Check Rotten Tomatoes for early reviews.

      • I generally avoid commenting particularly since I know many here have seen the movies much before I do, so my comments remain muted. But seeing someone being so judgmental about any Film Critics groups’ selections make me wonder – With what kind of ego does one say “The fact that The Master and Cloud Atlas are on their 10 best list and Les Miserables is not, doesn’t say much for the group itself.”
Awards in general are a subjective consideration and as such should be taken with a pinch of salt, but belittle a group of fairly respected film critics because someone’s personal favorite has not been included is stupid so much so that I had to point it out.

    2. Another group on board with Zero Dark Thirty. No complaints here with that…
