As we near 12.12.12, the big question of who will be #1 on, the rumored, the end of the world is, currently, up for grabs! Unsurprisingly, ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2‘ (Sum.) has been dethroned in several other countries around the world, being replaced with the happy holiday 3D flick, ‘Rise of the Guardians‘ (P/DW), a personal favorite of mine that I can’t wait to add to my movie collection! ‘Skyfall‘ (Sony) remains on top in many countries, though many stray down the American charts, finding favor with the epic movies about self-discovery like ‘Life of Pi‘ (Fox), which is #1 in China, and ‘Cloud Atlas‘ (WB).

This week, ‘Skyfall‘ rises back to the top of the daily charts, #1 from Tuesday until Saturday, when it is dethroned by guardians of childhood belief! ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2‘ is #1 on Monday, but remains #1 on the weekly charts, followed closely by ‘Skyfall‘. The top five remain the same as last week, but with the release of ‘Killing Them Softly‘ (Wein.), ‘Wreck-It Ralph‘ (BV) drops one to #7, ‘Red Dawn (2012)‘ (FD) sets to #8, ‘Flight‘ (Par.) descends to #9, and ‘Silver Linings Playbook‘ (Wein.) sweeps into #10. for the most part, not much change except for the addition of ‘The Collection‘ (LD) at #11 and ‘Talaash‘ (Relbig) at #12, both new releases and placing near the top 10. For shame, ‘Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning‘ (Magn.) disappointingly places at #70, followed by ‘Love, Marilyn‘ (SD) and ‘California Solo‘ (Strand.), all new releases but not as popular due to the big names being viewed in the holiday rush to watch Oscar nominations.

This weekend, ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2‘ drops to #3, pushing ‘Skyfall‘ to #1 and ‘Rise of the Guardians‘ to #2. ‘Playing for Keeps‘ (FD) is released and knocks ‘Killing Them Softly‘ down to #10, taking #6 and leaving the others as they were. Oscar shortlist in the category of Documentary Feature, ‘Chasing Ice‘ (SD) rises to #23, just ahead of, new release, ‘Hyde Park on Hudson‘ (Focus) at #24. ‘Rust and Bone‘ (SPC), rises to #26, as ‘Samsara‘ (Osci.) drops two spots to #39. Also a new release, ‘Only the Young‘ (Osci.) places at #42, many of the other new releases ahead by just a few places. Far fewer people went to the movies this week as opposed to the last. This weekend’s tally is shown in the table below. With Weinstein movies claiming the past two Oscars, the competition is thick this year with several epic stories.
