“When Can I See You Again?” from “Wreck-It Ralph”During the nominations process, all voting members of the Music Branch will receive a Reminder List of works submitted in the category and a DVD copy of the song clips. Members will be asked to watch the clips and then vote in the order of their preference for not more than five achievements in the category. The five achievements receiving the highest number of votes will become the nominations for final voting for the award.
To be eligible, a song must consist of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film. A clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody must be used in the body of the film or as the first music cue in the end credits.
The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

My predictions are vague, but…
- Suddenly
- Skyfall (if they didn’t disqualify it, it must mean something)
- Something from Brave
Last two spots are wild cards. Could be something expectable like Song of the Lonely Mountain or Still Alive, could be a song from Django, could be something trendy like Breath of Life or Dull Tool or Everybody Needs a Best Friend.
This is a pretty good year for the category, I gotta say. Could easily pick ten good songs here.

I’d really like to see Fiona Apple and Adele at the ceremony. But if Adele’s there, I don’t think anyone else is going to count on winning. Dull Tool is probably the better song in the end.

Good to see my personal choice, “Strange Love” from Frankenweenie, in contention (my runner-up, “Mecca” from Cosmopolis, would be ineligible since the words originated from the source novel).
I will be so happy if “The Baddest Man Alive” gets nominated. It’s not so much the song (which is okay) as it is that I want to be able to call The Man with the Iron Fists an Oscar nominee.

Hashishet Albi from Where Do We Go Now? is puzzling to me! The movie was released last year in Lebanon and was submitted in the Best Foreign Picture last year.

I’m pulling for the sexy, sultry, rockin’ “Voodoo” from ‘Halloween Party’.
