    1. Best supporting Actress- Judi Dench. Hmm, okay. Best actress in an actin movie- Judie Dench. WTF!?

      Btw, Django just got raped.

    2. Pretty much along expected lines…some pointers:

      1. Supporting Actress will be the same for the Oscars MINUS Judi Dench

      2. Very strong year for lead actors – whoever misses out on Jan 10 will be extremely unlucky

      3. It’ll be interesting to see how many films do get nominated for Best Pic at the Oscars – in the given list, it is extremely difficult to leave out even one of them

      4. Not expecting Naomi Watts to show up on Jan 10 – lead actress will be the same lineup MINUS Naomi Watts

      5. For supporting actor, tomorrow’s SAG nominations should give a better idea as to who’s in because I’m not expecting Bardem and Matthew M to show up on Jan 10 – the other four slots are pretty much locks

      6. ‘Les Mis’ cinematography nomination is a major surprise because the use of hand-held cameras and extreme close up of the actors’ faces (while they were singing) did seem quite disconcerting to many people

      7. ‘Exotic Marigold’ nominated in Acting Ensemble is like giving recognition to a film only because some of the finest ever actors worked on that film. Compared to the other nominees in that category, ‘Exotic Marigold’ does seem out of place.

      8. For Film Editing, I expect ‘The Master’ to be nominated instead of ‘Les Mis’ at the Oscars.

      9. Jennifer Lawrence being nominated in FOUR categories (3 acting + 1 ensemble). Does this mean Jessica Chastain will win Best Actress? Seems like it.

      10. ‘Skyfall’ will win Original Song. ‘Suddenly’ is a cutesy song, but pales in comparison to ‘Skyfall’

      • I wouldn’t call Arkin a lock nor would I count out McConaughey just yet. Both are in this giant lump with Waltz, DiCaprio, Henry, Goodman, and Redmayne all competing for spots 4 and 5.

    3. I’m very glad that Moonrise Kingdom and Looper have not been forgotten! I’m rather disappointed, though, that John Goodman’s work in Flight seems to be going generally unnoticed (excepting by the Satellite Awards).

I’m wondering what Awards Circuit’s staff think of the Oscar chances for these two films and Goodman’s performance?

      • I personally like Goodman’s chances better in Argo, and I don’t like his odds there much either.

I think MK has a good chance at Screenplay and an outside chance at BP. But what else can it get now that the score was disqualified?

Looper is one of my favorites of the year, but aside from a screenplay nom, I can’t see it having much of a shot with Oscar.

Those are just my takes though.

    4. Surprisingly strong showing for Silver Linings, glad to see it gaining some steam after an uncertain box office. I still think Zero Dark Thirty wins all five it’s nominated for.

    5. The strong showing for Skyfall pleases me. Other than that, no real surprises. Adapted Screenplay still disappoints (The Deep Blue Sea? Cosmopolis? The Avengers? Madagascar 3?), while the failure to nominate Anderson for Best Director is a bit worrisome.

    6. why is ANNA KARENINA getting snubbed of best score and best actress

    7. I am DISGUSTED that Doona Bae was ignored from a nomination. She was easily one of if not the BEST Supporting actress of the year.

      • I have to agree with you. Alongside Daniel Day Lewis for Lincoln (Best Actor in a Leading Role), Doona Bae gives the best performance of the year in any movie. She not only deserves a best supporting actress nomination, but the award itself. I am very saddened by the lack of accolades and nominations for this amazingly brilliant performance. Perhaps its too polarizing for its audiences. But she really does deserve a nomination. Shame on the critics, even though the other nominees are fine picks.

        • When you can steal the show in a movie that features multiple Academy Award nominees and experienced veterans with scary ease like Doona Bae, it would seem obvious to nominate her for Best Supporting Actress. Somehow that didn’t happen. Its frustrating she isnt getting any love from the critics. Come Oscar nomination time, if Doona Bae doesn’t get an Oscar nomination, for me it would be one of the biggest Osar snubs (in terms of nominations) of all time. Doona Bae is the best supporting actress of the year. There is no question about it.

    8. Jennifer Lawrence is nominated like.. FOUR time! She’s only 22! That’s impressive

    9. Well. That’s it, Seven Psychopaths lost the push it needed. It really is a shame because at the very least Sam Rockwell should be nominated as well as the screenplay, although to my surprise it is still my #1 of the year…. I’m banking that it gets some Golden Globe love like In Bruges surprised us back in 2008 but that’s about it… I don’t think a surprise screenplay nod is in 7S’s fate.

    10. No huge surprises here, but a mostly solid group of nominees…

    11. AN interesting tidbit from Katey Rich “The BFCA Best Picture Top 10 is identical to NYFCO’s top 10, and identical to AFI’s top 10 save one. Really? Where are our imaginations?”

Also only 3 nominees for scifi horror, 4 for Foreign Film, but 6 in documentary? SLP with those extra 3 noms in comedy? No Doona Bae? :(

But let’s all give thanks that Logan Lerman at least got a Best Young Actor notice

      • Really? Lincoln, playing at just 2,000 theaters, has grossed 100m @ the Box-Office. That’s half as many theaters as most popular movies play @.

          • So, only Oscar voters love Lincoln, which is what matters. Am I missing something?
Oh, and BTW, Lincoln is produced by Disney!

            • No you’re right. Old people and Oscar lovers/voters are the vast majority of the people who care about Lincoln. I was talking about the general public on the younger side of 50 (myself included).
