Steven Vincent Buscemi turned 55 on December 13th. He worked as a firefighter while attending the Lee Strasberg Institute in the 80s. His first role in a motion picture was in Parting Glances, for which he received praise. He received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Male in Jim Jarmusch’s Mystery Train (1989). In 1990, he played one of Laurence Fishburne’s henchman in Abel Ferrara’s King of New York, and a similar role in the Coen Brothers’ gem Miller’s Crossing (the first of six Coen Brothers’ films he would appear in).
Steve Buscemi’s breakthrough role arrived when he played Mr. Pink in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs (1992), for which he won an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor. Some of Buscemi’s most memorable performances come from films where he played hysteric and sociopathic characters, including Con Air, Armageddon, Fargo, and Ghost World (for which he won a slew of awards, including an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor). He has also starred in Monster’s Inc., The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Big Fish, Billy Madison, and The Wedding Singer (a total of seven Adam Sandler films, in fact). Buscemi has also appeared in multiple television shows, including The Sopranos. He currently stars in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, playing a corrupt Atlantic City politician set in the Prohibition era, and has won the Golden Globe and SAG awards for his performance.
Buscemi will star in two sequels – Monster’s University and Grown Ups 2 – as well as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone in 2013.

When he’s not ranking just about everything or dominating boardgames, Mark is breaking down the Oscar race 24/7 with Rain Man-like stats and knowledge. In his downtime, you can find him commiserating with other Northeast Ohio sports fans because a hero isn’t complete without a little heartbreak. If Lost, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Survivor are your style, then congratulations, you have something in common with this inglourious basterd.

    6. I should have put a disclaimer in there for Pulp Fiction. That would be a clear cut #1 for me, but he is in it so little that I didn’t rank it in my 3. Just in case you were wondering why I didn’t.

    7. One of my very favorite actors:
      1. Trees Lounge
      2. Reservoir Dogs
      3. The Messenger

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Ghost World, one of his most acclaimed performances.
