    mud

The first trailer for Jeff Nichols’ (Take Shelter) Mud, starring Matthew McConaughey, dropped Wednesday, and it looks like the actor is picking up in 2013 right where he left off in 2012. After impressive performances in films like Bernie, Killer Joe, and, fine, Magic Mike, it looks as if McConaughey is building up quite a resume as of late. In Mud, he plays a fugitive hiding out on an island in the Mississippi River, where two boys (one played by The Tree of Life’s Tye Sheridan) discover and befriend the drifter. The rest of the cast rounds out nicely, including Reese Witherspoon, Sam Shepherd, Michael Shannon and Sarah Paulson. Mud will be in limited release April 20th, watch the trailer after the jump.

    About Mark Johnson

Lover of all things film and Oscar. Fantasy sports’ equivalent of George Steinbrenner. Your very own Han Solo, making friends all over the movie-loving galaxy in spite of himself. When he’s not ranking just about everything or dominating boardgames, Mark is breaking down the Oscar race 24/7 with Rain Man-like stats and knowledge. In his downtime, you can find him commiserating with other Northeast Ohio sports fans because a hero isn’t complete without a little heartbreak. If Lost, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Survivor are your style, then congratulations, you have something in common with this inglourious basterd.

    1. Augh, yes please. I’ve been waiting for this since Cannes. I love it when actors come back from a less-than-prestigious career, and McConaughey is doing that in a big way right now, working with Soderbergh and Friedkin and Linklater and now Nichols. Maybe there’s an Oscar nom in it for him, if he can survive nine months.
