    grandmasters

It always bodes well for a filmmaker when The Weinstein Company (TWC) purchases the rights to your film. Today, TWC announced they have acquired the rights to distribute Wong Kar Wai’s The Grandmaster in all US and Candian English speaking territories. The film stars  as IP Man, mentor to Bruce Lee. Have a look at the official press release after the jump.

The title of this post is depressing enough. I had considered doing my Circuit 3 post on James Dean this week, but the irony isJAMESDEAN he only made three films before his tragic and untimely death at the age of 24. Well thanks to Bluewater Productions, we get to celebrate the legendary actor in another way. The company has produced a comic book on the iconic actor, and is set to release it on February 8th, on what would have been Dean’s 82nd birthday. It is simply titled Tribute: James Dean. Have a look at the full release after the jump.

sundance2013350I had wanted to make sure that I got this look at the festival to you all first before leaving, but it didn’t quite turn out that way. In the past week or so you all saw over twenty Sundance reviews and interviews hit the site. I hope you all enjoyed this look at what Sundance is like, and enjoyed all we put out. Seeing up to five movies a day and getting no sleep is hardly something to complain about in the grand scheme of things, but honestly, we’re both thrilled to be home now!

    Lemmon

John Uhler “Jack” Lemmon III was born on February 8th, 1925 in Newton, Massachusetts. Long before becoming one of Hollywood’s most beloved icons, he was an active member in drama clubs while attending Harvard University, and joined the Navy after graduation. After his service, he found work on radio, television, and Broadway.  His film debut came in The Lady Takes a Sailor (1949), though his breakthrough performance would come five years later in It Should Happen to You (1954) opposite Judy Holliday.

Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight was acquired by Sony Classics out of the Sundance Film Festival, and now it seems the distribution company has set a May 24th release date for the film. It will open in New York and Los Angeles first, and then expand to wide release shortly after. I’m not exactly sure what this means. Unlike every other announcement so far, AMPAS has unveiled today that Charlize Theron, Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Daniel Radcliffe will make “special appearances” at the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony. Not presenters. Not performers. Just… appearances. Anyone else care to take a gander at what they could be involved in? Maybe something to do with the introduction? Sometimes the host likes to go into the crowd and embarrass a few stars, though normally it involves the nominees. Perhaps they are doing a musical number together (since that is their theme this year)? I really don’t know. Have a look at the press release after the jump, then leave your best guess at what they might be involved with at the ceremony in the comments.
