The Walt Disney Studios publicity team has issued a birthday card of sorts to honor our greatest president, while at the same time throwing in some last minute campaigning for Steven Spielberg’s film, Lincoln. Have a look at their sentiments toward our 16th President – and more notably the film – after the jump.

    About Mark Johnson

Lover of all things film and Oscar. Fantasy sports’ equivalent of George Steinbrenner. Your very own Han Solo, making friends all over the movie-loving galaxy in spite of himself. When he’s not ranking just about everything or dominating boardgames, Mark is breaking down the Oscar race 24/7 with Rain Man-like stats and knowledge. In his downtime, you can find him commiserating with other Northeast Ohio sports fans because a hero isn’t complete without a little heartbreak. If Lost, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Survivor are your style, then congratulations, you have something in common with this inglourious basterd.

    1. At the end of the film Lincoln, I wished it would go on for 2 more hours, with just Lincoln talking. I wanted to spend more time listening to him.

    2. Has anyone thought of what happened in 1974? Going into the Oscars Chinatwon (1974) was without question the favorite film to win, having just won the Golden Globe for Best Picture (Drama) — none of the critics awards had gone to The Godfather Part II (1974) with the exception of the National Society of Film Critics Best Director Award which went to Francis Ford Coppola — in addition Coppola had won the DGA Award for Best Director, though no one really took that seriously because he had also won the DGA for The Godfather (1972) and then lost to Bob Fosse — the thinking was The Godfather Part II (1974) for whatever the reasons, had no chance of winning Best Picture and Best Director — and then, incredibly, and deservingly, it won six Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director — I think we are headed towards something similar this year with Lincoln (2012) — yes, Affleck and Argo (2012) have won just about everything in sight, with the exception of several critics awards — yes Affleck won the DGA, and we know he cannot win the Oscar — does the Academy really want to draw attention to their blunder of NOT nominating him for Best Director by honoring Argo as Best Picture? — for all my bitching about the Oscars there are years they have gotten it right, such as 1974 in which they honored The Godfather Part II (1974) in my opinion the greatest American film ever made — on Oscar night I think the big surprise will be that lincoln (2012) wins Best Picture and Best Director — I think this is going to be one of those years the get it right — of course like everyone else out there making predictions I could be totally wrong, but my gut tells me something wild is coming for the Oscars, and a Best Picture win for Lincoln is it. Perfect.

      • John, now that you have left the site and for some reason blocked me from contacting you, I have no fear in saying the following: Grow up. You get upset over the silliest, most childish things concerning the movies. The other staff writers on this site ar 20+ years your junior, and have not shown the level of immaturity you have. If Lincoln doesn’t win, so what? You still love it. You still have it. Get over yourself.

    3. Wow Robert — for the record I have not blocked you from my site, but have had Facebook issues — perhaps you should have contacted me before placing this childish rant on the site — was simply throwing something out there that perhaps, PERHAPS no one had thought of — have you never experienced issues with FB?? Just about everyone I know has, and in fact some very good friends found themselves unable to get on mine — I hope you feel better about yourself saying what you needed to say to me, you must be very proud of yourself — good for you — I have and always will be passionate about what I feel about the movies, and if that means getting upset or enraged over what call silly things, so be it — I should add that since you have not been able to talk to me on FB you have not requested being a friend either, perhaps that is for the best — you had an e-mail address for me, which you could have used to ask why you were not FB anymore…I honestly do not know.
