The producers of the 85th Academy Awards Oscars continue to do a great job not only with who they are getting to present, but the order in which they are releasing the names of the presenters. Each announcement seems to have a good mix of veteran actors and young stars, as AMPAS continues to push toward appealing to a younger, wider audience. Jane Fonda, Jennifer Garner, Kristen Stewart, and Kerry Washington are the latest list of names announced, Garner’s being the one that jumps out the most to me. Wouldn’t it be a sweet moment if she were to announce the Best Picture winner for her husband’s film?  Have a look at the official press release after the jump.

The calendar year for most people runs January through December, but for such Oscar-obsessed people as you will find writing here at The Awards Circuit the year ends with Oscar Sunday. Everything we do at this site leads to and culminates in the big ceremony. We’ve spent countless hours going back and forth trying to figure out just where the pieces fit best into the jigsaw puzzle that the Academy Awards race has become, and I have to tell you, I have never seen a year quite like this.

    Oscar Circuit: Best Actor

Raw, natural talent fills the finest Lead Actor lineup in years...

    February 21, 2013

Oscars_AnnouncementYears from now when I think back on 2012 and what it had to offer, I’m sure the cinematic landscape that was presented will surely stick out as many directors and filmmakers pushed the thematic narrative with breathtaking visuals, stupendous performances, and uniquely driven story structures.  One thing that will be near the top was the daunting task the Academy, pundits, and even myself, had in narrowing down the Lead Actor race to five simple slots.

There were debates going back and forth about who deserved a spot, who was miscategorized, and who was given the light of a day for consideration.  The Academy did an admirable job and when push comes to shove, these five performances that are nominated are all worthy of citation and acceptable as a Best Actor winner.

    The Nominees Are:

    • Bradley Cooper - Silver Linings Playbook
    • Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln
    • Hugh Jackman - Les Miserables
    • Joaquin Phoenix - The Master
    • Denzel Washington - Flight

Read the breakdown of each nominee below:

Well this is interesting, isn’t it? Usually when the Best Picture prize is handed out and the producers finish their thank you speeches, the credits roll and the year officially comes to an end. However, Kristin Chenoweth and Seth MacFarlane apparently want to have the last word, and will be performing a closing number that the producers seem pretty excited about. To quote Calvin Candie, “you had my curiosity… but now you have my attention.” Have a look at the official release after the jump.

An annual tradition at The Awards Circuit, I once again humbly present to you my picks for who/what Will Win as well as who/what Should Win at the Oscars. Before we get started though, a few quick thoughts. This was obviously perhaps the most wide open race in history until a few weeks ago, so I’ve actually never been less confident in my predictions than I am currently. I was literally up all night second guessing myself. So many possibilities ran through my mind, but below you can see what I came up with. We’re going to find out in a few days who actually wins, but for now, here’s my yearly contribution to our Will Win/Should Win series!

    Shubha-Vedula-Born-This-Way-American-Idol-12-Top-40-Sudden-Death-2

Okay, now this is something we haven’t seen on American Idol. For the next two weeks, the judges will be cutting five girls on Wednesday and five boys on Thursday until the competition is narrowed down to the Top 20. This stage of the competition is known as the Sudden Death Round, and I hope that name is self-explanatory. Performing in front of a live studio audience in Las Vegas, ten girls gave it their all last night, ranging from impressive to downright Paige Miles-bad (you’ll hear more on that after the jump). I will be ranking each of the performances, as well as revealing which five girls went through to the next round, and which five unfortunately got the heave-ho. Let’s review… Read more on American Idol Recap: Sudden Death Round, Week One (The Girls)…
