It’s Oscar week! So most pundits – just like us here at The Awards Circuit – were busy unveiling their final predictions. Pete Hammond at Deadline went first, setting off a domino effect including Scott Feinberg and Todd McCarthy at The Hollywood Reporter, Anthony Breznican of Entertainment Weekly, Oliver Lyttelton of The Playlist, Rope of Silicon‘s Brad Brevet, Katey Rich of Cinema Blend, In Contention‘s trio of Kris Tapley, Guy Lodge, and Gregory Ellwood, Tom Shone at The Guardian, and Wesley Morris at Grantland. Even Nate Silver (yes, the political numbers guy) got involved with predictions at his NY Times blog, Five Thirty Eight.
Sasha Stone at Awards Daily gave us a list of the general consensus picks in each category, along with potential shifts and upsets that might occur on Oscar night.
Deadline’s Pete Hammond (and many others) are unhappy with the East Coast WGA announcing the winners before the West Coast announced theirs, and he (and many others) feel the WGA was the last hope any film had of beating Argo at Oscar.
Anne Thompson of Thompson on Hollywood exchanged emails with Lead Actress nominee Emmanuelle Riva (Amour). Will she be able to fend off SAG winner Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) for the Oscar?
In Contention’s Kris Tapley looks at the rise and fall and rise kind of year it has been for Argo, in the days leading up to its coronation at Oscar. While Guy Lodge looks at the elite club that George Clooney is set to join.
Timothy M. Gray at Variety gives us 10 reasons why Oscar still matters.
Steve Pond at The Wrap looks at the expensive grand finale to the campaign trail.
Oliver Lyttelton at The Playlist gives us 50 fun Oscar facts.
