First Trailer for The Weinstein’s ‘Philomena’ Starring Judi Dench

The Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for Stephen Frear’s Philomena, a bittersweet dramedy about a mother (Judi Dench) searching for the illegitimate son she was forced to give up for adoption decades ago. Steve Coogan, who also stars in the film, adapted the screenplay with Jeff Pope from Martin Sixsmith’s The Lost Child of Philomena Lee.

Frears is a two-time Academy Award nominee, most recently for directing The Queen (2006). Dench has been nominated six times since 1998, and won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her small part in Shakespeare in Love (1998). Her most recent nomination came the same year as Frears last, for Richard Eyre’s Notes on a Scandal (2006). Will the pair have a date with Oscar?

Philomena currently has no scheduled US release date, though it is set to premiere in the UK on November 1.
