Box Office Results (09.29.13)


Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal chased ‘Prisoners‘ (WB) into #1 all week, though the cute ‘Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2‘ (Sony) drowned out all other competition. This month, ‘Insidious Chapter 2‘ (RD) took #1, ‘Riddick‘ (Uni.) at #2, and ‘Prisoners‘ (WB) took #3. Rounding off this quarter, ‘Despicable Me 2‘ (Uni.) is #1 grossing just over $360M, ‘We’re The Millers‘ (WB) grossed $140M at #2, with ‘The Conjuring‘ (WB) grossing just over $130M at #3, but ‘Iron Man 3‘ (BV) remains #1 this year, slightly over $409M.

On the 6th week ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler‘ (Wein.) is on the charts, it’s perched at #6, ‘Battle of the Year‘ (SGem) danced into #7, ‘Riddick‘ (Uni.) is #8, the re-release of ‘The Wizard of Oz (3D/IMAX)‘ (WB) skipped down the road to #9, and ‘Planes‘ (BV) flew in to #10, managing to last 7 weeks on the charts. ‘Thanks for Sharing‘ (RAtt.) weakens down to #19 and 2013 Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus feature ‘Enough Said‘ (FoxS) chit-chatted into #30.

This weekend, ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2‘ tops the charts, pushing Gyllenhaal and Jackman down one spot, ‘Rush (2013)‘ makes the major leap up 35 spots to #3, followed by two new releases ‘Baggage Claim‘ (FoxS) at #4 and ‘Don Jon‘ (Rela.) at #5. #6 goes to ‘Insidious Chapter 2‘ (FD), ‘The Family (2013)‘ (Rela.) dropped to #7, ‘Instructions Not Included‘ dropped down to #8, ‘We’re the Millers‘ floundered into #9, with ‘The Butler‘ at the very edge of the top 10. ‘Enough Said‘ rose up to #11 along with ‘Metallica Through the Never‘ (PicH) drifts in to #13.
