BadGpa-carWith the release of ‘Carrie (2013)‘ (SGem) and ‘The Fifth Estate‘ (BV) in theaters, Gravity (WB) still blasted into #1 on the international charts, though lost its hold on the domestic charts, allowing ‘Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa‘ (Par.) into #1 upon release into theaters. This week, ‘Gravity‘ clung for dear life to #1 on the domestic charts, ‘Captain Phillips‘ still riding high at #2, ‘Carrie‘ levitates into #3, ‘Escape Plan‘ (LG/S) in at #4, and ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2‘ rained into #5. ‘Prisoners‘ (WB) landed much lower at #6, followed by ‘Enough Said‘ (FoxS) which made a major jump up the charts. Still, the greatest tumble-down the charts within the top ten was ‘Runner Runner‘ (Fox) at #8, ‘The Fifth Estate‘ was released into #9, and ‘Insidious Chapter 2‘ held onto tight to #10, barely managing to stay ahead of ‘Rush (2013)‘ (Uni.) at #11. Disappointing at the box office, ‘12 Years a Slave‘ (FoxS) only managed to land at #15, ‘All is Lost‘ (RAtt.) at #35, ‘Kill Your Darlings‘ (SPC) at #42, and ‘American Promise‘ (RFG) only managed to land at #52. What a slow week it seemed to be.

This weekend, with the shifting numbers, waves of viewers, and 2014 Oscar buzz, ‘Bad Grandpa‘ dethroned Gravity for #1, as Tom Hanks managed to follow the astronauts in to #3, the much talked about ‘The Counselor‘ (Fox) took #4 managing a mere $8 million, but the alive food remained firmly at #5, just ahead of ‘Carrie‘ at #6, Escape Plan’ at #7, and ‘12 Years A Slave‘ made a great leap up to #8. ‘Enough Said‘ managed to drop to #9 and #10 goes to ‘Prisoners‘ who pushes the second chapter of the horror out, though just barely.
