This week, as ‘Thor: The Dark World‘ (BV) trickled down the money, ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire‘ (LG) exploded out on Friday at $70.5 million on Friday alone. ‘The Best Man Holiday‘ (Uni.) sat comfortably at #2, ‘Last Vegas‘ (CBS) at #3, and ‘Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa‘ (Par.) at #4. The famous holiday bird took #5, ‘Gravity‘ (WB) at #6, ‘Ender’s Game‘ (LG/S) at #7, ‘12 Years A Slave‘ (FoxS) at #8, ‘Captain Phillips‘ (Sony) at #9, and ‘About Time‘ (Uni.) warped into #10. Film festival favorite, ‘Nebraska‘ (Par.) managed to swoop into #25. On the international charts, ‘Thor 2‘ and ‘Gravity‘ has the charts floored and firmly lodged in on top, just waiting for the fire to take to the rest of the districts.

This weekend, America caught fire along with the rest of the world, shattering records to break into #4 on the all time opening weekends with $161 million. ‘Thor 2‘ dropped to #2, over $100 million less than #1, ‘The Best Man Holiday‘ (Uni.) is #3, and new release ‘Delivery Man‘ (BV) took #4, much less than expected. ‘Free Birds‘ dived to #5, ‘Last Vegas‘ lost out to #6, the laughter of ‘Bad Grandpa‘ dies out to #7, ‘Gravity‘ spun out of orbit to #8, ‘12 Years‘ imprisoned to #9, and ‘Dallas Buyers Club‘ cheats out to #10. ‘Frozen (2013)‘ (BV) solidified into #21 and ‘Philomena‘ (Wein.) set into #24.

This week, ‘OldBoy‘ will take into theaters and is expected to do well on November 26th while ‘Journey to the South Pacific‘ will be in IMAX theaters on November 27th, before the 29th when ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom‘ will be put into limited release. Overall, it was pretty predicted that the ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire‘ would blow away all competition, but the film now that everyone is looking for the release of ‘American Hustle‘ on December 13th and ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues‘ on December 20th, just as the 2014 Oscar races intensify.
