This week, ‘Frozen (2013)‘ (BV) overtook ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug‘ (WB), ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty‘ (Fox) and ‘Police Story (2013)‘ (Wanda), which ruled Asia and out-grossed the rest of the heavy hitters easily. This week, at the domestic box office, ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street‘ (Par.) howled away ‘Frozen‘, and the ‘Lone Survivor‘ (Uni.) took its place once the ice had thawed enough. Not bad for the first week of the year.

Lone Survivor

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones‘ (Par.) was no match for ‘Frozen‘, Smaug still securing the mountain at #3, the big bad wolf smokes in at #4, and the star-studded cast hustled the Americans into #5. Our funny troupe of anchormen takes #6, Tom Hanks suits up as Walt Disney to woo the hard-shelled P.L. Travers at #7, and Ben Stiller travels the world as Walter Mitty at #8. The never disappointing Jennifer Lawrence, a seeming jack of all roles, led the revolution in to #9 and Keanu Reeves, try as he may, managed to keep ‘47 Ronin‘ (Uni.) in to #10, though just barely managing to hang on.

This weekend, Kellan Lutz plunged into the life of Hercules, the legend landing at #4 and, the most surprising jump came from ‘Lone Survivor‘ (Uni.) up to #1, just ahead of ‘Frozen‘ and ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street‘. The provocative hustle, led by Christian Bale, held tight to #5, Bilbo and the gang floated in to #6, the power women Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts moved Osage County into #7, and the story of Mary Poppins rose to #8. Not doing exceptionally well, the present installment of ‘Paranormal Activity‘ took to #9 and ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues‘ (Par.) stormed into #10.
