International Cinephile Society Nominations

Blue-Is-The-Warmest-Color-2If you’re someone who gets tired of seeing the same films and performances cited again and again during the precursor season, then the annual release of the International Cinephile Society nominations provide somewhat of a breath of fresh air. While their awards do tend to skew differently than most, this year at least their nominations were an interesting mix of the usual suspects and some out their selections. For example, where else have you seen Kristin Scott Thomas score an admittedly well deserved Best Supporting Actress nod for the divisive Only God Forgives? What about a nom for Short Term 12 in the Best Ensemble category? This is a fun little list to look over and see what kind of choices they made. You can take a look below, but of course don’t pretend that this has anything to do with Oscar. It’s just a nice diversion.

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 200 and 300 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Internet Film Critics Association as well. Today the IFCA, tomorrow the world!

Some real solid nominees overall too.

Digging the “Laurence Anyways” love. Still need to see that.
