Circuit 3: Your Favorite Horror Movie Sequels

Is there a genre more disparaged and maligned than that of the horror film sequel? Traditionally, the genre has been seen as a money grab – as sequels often are – that never manages to capture the spirit of what made the original film so successful. While there are exceptions to the rule, the good sequels remain few and far between – for every Aliens there are six Ghoulies 2 or Friday the 13th Part VII: Jason Takes Manhattan, right?

With The Conjuring 2 hitting theaters this week, we want to know what you think the three best horror film sequels are. Chime in with your thoughts and let us know if you plan to see The Conjuring 2 this weekend.

My Circuit 3 for Horror Film Sequels:

  1. Aliens (1986)
  2. The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
  3. Dawn of the Dead (1978)

  • Joey Magidson

    1. Aliens
    2. Saw 6
    3. The Devil’s Rejects

(If you consider The Silence of the Lambs a sequel to Manhunter, it could be potentially eligible too)

The Conjuring 2 probably makes my top five, by the by.

  • Matt Mulderink

    1. Scream 2
    2. Halloween II
    3. Wes Craven’s New Nightmare

  • Ryan

Well, I can tell you that I will definitely be seeing The Conjuring 2 soon. The first one was brilliantly old-school, and early word suggests that though it doesn’t reach its predecessors heights, that it is still a solid horror sequel and worth seeing. Good enough for me.

    1. Aliens
    2. …………..
    3. ……………………….

Come to think of it, I hate just about every horror sequel I’ve ever seen, and I avoid the others like the plague as a result. I might have to catch up on the other suggestions on this page.
