“Mad Max: Fury Road” actress Zoe Kravitz has been added to the “Harry Potter” spinoff series, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news that Kravitz was added to the first film for a small role after production had started, with the potential for a much larger role in the second movie. This is just the latest update from Warner Bros. on the series, which won’t have its debut in theaters until later this year.
In the films, Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) stars in the central role of wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who also directed the last four “Harry Potter” blockbusters. The series marks author J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut. The first film will be released on Nov. 18 of this year, and the studio just announced the sequel will debut on Nov. 16, 2018, with a third film eyeing a 2020 release.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
According to a statement from the studio
, the second film in the series “moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.”
Following “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” Kravitz will appear on HBO’s “Big Little Lies” with Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley.
