Rooney Mara is set to star in Brady Corbet‘s “Vox Lux” as a pop star, according to reports. Corbet is known for “The Childhood of a Leader,” which won the Luigi De Laurentiis and Venice Horizons Awards at Venice last year.
Reports also state that Grammy nominee Sia will be providing original music for the drama.
Per Variety, the film’s synopsis is as follows:
‘Vox Lux’ follows the rise of ‘Celeste’ from the ashes of a major national tragedy to pop superstardom. This 15-year odyssey, set between 1999 and the present day, tracks the important cultural evolutions of the 21st Century via her gaze.
Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa and Three Six Zero Entertainment’s Brian Young are producing.
Mara shot to fame with her Best Actress-nominated role in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” She also received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work in last year’s “Carol.”
Mara currently stars in Garth Davis’ “Lion,” which debuted to emotional applause from the Toronto crowd. She is also starring in Davis’ next feature “Mary Magdalene” in the title role. Deadline is reporting that three-time Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix will play Jesus Christ in the film. In addition, Chiwetel Ejiofor will also star in the film.
She also has Netflix’s “The Discovery” with Robert Redford and Jason Segel. The sci-fi film is set two years after the discovery that an afterlife has been scientifically proven, resulting in millions of people committing suicide in order to start over. Redford will play the man who made the discovery, while Segel plays his son. Mara is playing the woman with a tragic past whom Segel’s character falls in love with. The film also stars Jesse Plemons, Riley Keough and Ron Canada.
Shooting for “Vox Lux” begins in February. Stay tuned for updates on Mara’s newest project.
