WATCH: First Trailer for ‘Dunkirk’ Is Here!

Dunkirk trailer

The first trailer for Christopher Nolan‘s “Dunkirk” is here, and it does not disappoint. The release comes on the heels of rumors a seven-minute prologue from the film will show before select screenings of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” this week.

Several of the reports claim the preview will show only in select IMAX theaters showing “Rogue One” on 70 mm. However, Warner Bros. has yet to comment on the rumors.

The move wouldn’t be unheard of from Nolan, however, according to The Playlist. A preview for “The Dark Knight” showed before “I Am Legend” in all IMAX theaters. Meanwhile, one for “The Dark Knight Rises” unspooled in theaters showing only the 70 mm version of “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.”

“Dunkirk,” as is the case with any Nolan project, has garnered a lot of buzz.

Nolan wrote the screenplay for the film, which tells the story of the Dunkirk evacuation during Operation Dynamo at the beginning of World War II. The operation would ultimately save around 330,000 Allied soldiers from the surrounding German forces. In addition to directing and writing, Nolan is also producing with Emma Thomas.

The film stars Cillian MurphyMark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy. Newcomers Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Aneurin Barnard and One Direction crooner Harry Styles also have roles in the film.

Frequent collaborator Hans Zimmer is on board for the score, and Hoyte van Hoytema is on board for cinematography. Van Hoytema, who previously worked with Nolan on “Interstellar,” has certainly been busy as of late. In recent years, Hoytema has worked on films such as “Spectre,” “Let the Right One In,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” “The Fighter” and “Her.”

“Dunkirk” will be Nolan’s first directorial feature effort since “Interstellar” in 2014. The director is known for undertaking massive film projects with big ideas, and his latest seems to continue the trend.

“Dunkirk” is slated for a July 21, 2017 release. Check out the trailer below!
