BEST PERFORMANCE: “The Theory of Everything” (2015)
Few stars can balance Oscar fare and headlining blockbusters, but Felicity Jones is one of them. Jones burst onto the scene with many “breakout performance” notices in the Sundance hit “Like Crazy.” Still, it would be a few more years until Oscar took notice with a nomination for “The Theory of Everything.” That performance helped nab her the lead role in the first standalone Star Wars film “Rogue One,” which has already passed $600 million worldwide and counting. Despite blockbuster status, Jones is still interested in more traditionally Oscar projects, such as “A Monster Calls” as a dying mother. With the increased visibility, Jones could easily parlay her stardom to an Oscar win with the right performance.
