12. Naomi Watts

BEST PERFORMANCE: “21 Grams” (2003)

Just two nominations for Naomi Watts? That doesn’t seem right, does it? Looking at the nine years between “21 Grams” and “The Impossible,” Watts has given us “King Kong,” “Birdman” and even “The Ring.” There was also that little snafu of passing her over in 2001 for David Lynch’s “Mulholland Dr.” that still seems pretty perplexing. While we hoped that “Diana” would do things for her, we are now looking to “The Glass Castle” from Destin Daniel Cretton and “The Book of Henry” from Colin Trevorrow to reignite the torch.
