9. Carey Mulligan

BEST PERFORMANCE: “Shame” (2011)

Currently in the Jake Gyllenhaal boat – once occupied by Marion Cotillard – the brilliance of Carey Mulligan hasn’t been recognized by the Academy since her inaugural nomination for “An Education.” It hurts more when looking at her roles over this time that’s included “Shame,” “Inside Llewyn Davis” and “Suffragette.” Paul Dano currently has his hands on her for his directorial debut “Wildlife,” before Dee Rees shows her off with “Mudbound.”
