BEST PERFORMANCE: “You Can Count on Me” (2000)
There are many who consider Laura Linney’s performance in “You Can Count on Me” one of the best that this century has offered thus far. Landing in the thick of another historic Best Actress race in 2000, she’s returned to the ceremony two more times with “Kinsey” and “The Savages” with very little hiccups. These days, she seems to keep missing the Oscar boat. “Sully” did her no favors and “Nocturnal Animals” was too small to warrant any big attention. Can Oren Moverman do some wonders for her with “The Dinner” opposite Richard Gere? Gut feeling is…yes!
