5. Keira Knightley

BEST PERFORMANCE: “Atonement” (2007)

Our pretty young Keira Knightley has emerged as a force in the industry. “Pride and Prejudice” and “The Imitation Game” garnered Oscar attention for her, but turns in “Atonement” and “Begin Again” were well noticed by her fans and colleagues. The next few years may begin a new crusade for the crowning of Knightley, as she is in pre-production on the baity-sounding adaptation of “The Aftermath” opposite Jason Clarke. And if “Catherine the Great” is finished in time for next Oscar season, then we’ll have a real reason to get excited.
