19. Catherine Keener

BEST PERFORMANCE: “Into the Wild” (2007)

One of Tom Hank’s “wives on the phone,” Catherine Keener is one of the many great actresses who was robbed of her Oscar. Keener came storming into awards contention with “Being John Malkovich,” but has dozens of other great performances in her repertoire. She scored with SAG but missed Oscar for “Into the Wild,” somehow missed everywhere for “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” but scored for “Capote,” and was ultimately left empty-handed for “Lovely & Amazing.” Her only credit for 2016 was “Unless,” but 2017 brings her into the “Sicario” follow-up “Soldado” as well as Jordan Peele’s horror/comedy “Get Out.” Maybe Oscar won’t come calling, but Keener should stay in the hunt for the future.
