BEST PERFORMANCE: “I’ve Loved You So Long” (2008)
Despite a career that is over three decades long and that includes the Oscar juggernaut “The English Patient,” Scott Thomas only has one Oscar nomination to show for it. There have been many close calls in the past, chief among them being the foreign film “I’ve Loved You So Long” in 2008. Appearances in Oscar fare such as “Gosford Park” and baity films like “Nowhere Boy” and “The Invisible Woman” kept her in the conversation. A powerhouse performance in a baity project, such as Joe Wright’s “The Darkest Hour,” could propel her to a win.
