WATCH: First Trailer for ‘American Made’ Starring Tom Cruise

Universal Pictures released the first trailer for Tom Cruise‘s next film, “American Made.”

Cruise plays Barry Seal, “a hustler and pilot unexpectedly recruited by the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history.” It is based on a true story. The film reunites Cruise with director with director Doug Liman. The pair previously worked together on the 2014 film “Edge of Tomorrow.”

Liman’s directorial credits also include “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “The Bourne Identity,” and “The Wall.” He is also set to direct a follow up to “Edge of Tomorrow” which is tentatively titled “Live, Die, Repeat and Repeat.”

Universal Pictures is distributing this film and released the trailer ahead of this week’s release of “The Mummy.” That film is the first in Universal’s planned Dark Universe franchise.

The “American Made” production team includes Brian Grazer, who won an Academy Award for “A Beautiful Mind.” Also producing are Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson, nominated for “Black Swan,” Doug Davison, and Kim Roth.

Gary Spinelli wrote the screenplay. His last screenplay was for the 2012 little-seen film “Stash House.”

The supporting cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Jesse Plemons, and Caleb Landry Jones.

“American Made” is scheduled to be released on September 29.
