It Netflix released the key art for “Marvel’s The Defenders,” set to premiere Aug 18. The art features all 4 Defenders looking ready to fight. Mike Colter, Krysten Ritter, Charlie Cox and Finn Jones look like a real team for the first time. Each has been busy kicking ass on their solo shows, so it’s exciting to finally see the team together. “Marvel’s The Defenders” features Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as a superhero fighting team, harkening viewers back to the flurry of superhero solo movies before “The Avengers” premiered in 2012.
The show also features a supporting cast with many familiar faces, fictional and real. Academy-Award nominated Sigourney Weaver steps to the plate to play Alexandra, which is sure to give the show an enticing villain. Elodie Yung plays Elektra, who we’ve already seen in “Marvel’s Daredevil” during its second season. She is accompanied by Scott Glenn (Stick), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page).
The show also brings back characters from “Marvel’s Luke Cage,” Simone Missick (Misty Knight) and Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing). Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse), and Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth) of “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” fame will also appear. It seems that every character on a Defender’s side will step in to help launch the Marvel show. Viewers are guaranteed to see characters they’ve come to love on Marvel’s previous solo superhero shows. The addition of Weaver as the season’s villain is also promising.
“Marvel’s The Defenders” is produced by Marco Ramirez (“Marvel’s Daredevil”) and Doug Petrie (“Marvel’s Daredevil”), along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb. The series is brought to fruition by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
“The Defenders” premieres Aug 18, 2017 on Netflix at 12:01 am.
