Toronto International Film Festival Announces 2017 Schedule

Officials for the Toronto International Film Festival held a press conference to announce their 2017 festival line up.

Offering a slate of 14 gala presentations and 33 special screenings, this year’s TIFF promises to be one of the most diverse.

Highly anticipated offerings include Darren Aronofsky‘s “Mother!” starring Jennifer Lawrence; “Downsizing” from Alexander Payne; and “Suburbicon” from George Clooney. Guillermo del Toro‘s “The Shape of Water” is set to play, as is the Angelina Jolie drama “First They Killed My Father.” Other special screenings will include Joe Wright‘s “Darkest Hour” with Gary Oldman, and Martin McDonagh‘s “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

Elsewhere at the festival, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris return with “Battle of the Sexes,” starring Emma Stone and Steve Carrell. Greta Gerwig‘s “Lady Bird,” starring Saoirse Ronan, and “Mary Shelley,” starring Elle Fanning, will also play.

Dee Rees heads to Toronto with “Mudbound.” That film, which is slated for Netflix, was well received earlier in the year at Sundance.

Other premieres include “Call Me By Your Name,” “Victoria and Abdul,” and “The Current War.”

While the full festival schedule hasn’t been released, other films screening include: “Woman Walks Ahead” with Jessica Chastain, “I, Tonya,” starring Margot Robbie, “The Catcher was a Spy” with Paul Rudd, and “Stronger,” starring Jake GyllenhaalAndy Serkis’ “Breathe,” and Wim Wenders’ “Submergence” also made the cut.

The 42nd TIFF will run from September 7 to 17.
