Good news may be on its way to fans of “Dredd.” Karl Urban (“Star Trek Into Darkness”), who played Judge Dredd in the 2012 remake, is in talks to reprise his role on the upcoming TV series “Judge Dredd: Mega City One.”
Urban spoke about the possibility at the Star Trek Las Vegas con last weekend, according to Gizmodo. The actor revealed that he’s currently discussing his return with IM Global and video game studio Rebellion, and is up for playing the Judge on television. “If they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.” However, Urban cautioned that nothing’s set in stone, and wants to ensure Judge Dredd will be paid due respect in“Judge Dredd: Mega City One” before he signs on. Fans will just have to wait and see if things solidify in the coming months.
“Dredd” received a 78% rating from Rotten Tomatoes and was a flop at the box office. Still, fans of the comic book hero thought the remake did justice to Judge Dredd, and “Dredd” quickly became a beloved cult classic.
Urban is known for his roles as Eomer in “Lord of the Rings,” CMO Leonard “Bones” McCoy “Star Trek” and Detective John Kennex in “Almost Human.” He’s known for his faithful portrayal of Judge Dredd and Bones McCoy, which has continued to endear him to fans on the franchises. He won an Award Circuit Community Award alongside his fellow castmates for Best Cast Ensemble for “Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”
A premiere date has not been set for the TV series. See the official poster for the series below.
