After several weeks of teasing, Paramount Pictures finally unveiled the official trailer for “mother!

The film was written and directed by Darren Aronofsky. It is the story of a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests show up at their home. From the trailer, though, the story is not nearly that simple.

“mother!” is a psychological thriller that appears to share similar qualities with Aronofsky’s Academy Award nominated “Black Swan.” That film earned Natalie Portman an Academy Award, and garnered five nominations overall, including Best Picture.

Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem star as the couple at the center of the story. Details of the film are so scarce, their character names haven’t even been revealed.

Lawrence won an Academy Award for “Silver Linings Playbook.” She has been nominated three additional times, for “Winter’s Bone,” “American Hustle,” and “Joy.”

Bardem won his first Oscar for playing the terrifying villain Anton Chigurh in “No Country for Old Men.” He was also nominated for “Biutiful” and “Before Night Falls.”

The uninvited guests are Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer. Harris has been nominated for four Academy Awards for “Apollo 13,” “The Truman Show,” “Pollock,” and “The Hours.”

Pfeiffer earned Oscar nominations for “Dangerous Liaisons,” “The Fabulous Baker Boys,” and “Love Field.” Pfeiffer is also currently up for a Primetime Emmy for HBO’s “The Wizard of Lies.”

The cast also includes Kristen Wiig, Stephen McHattie, and brothers Domhnall Gleeson and Brian Gleeson. There are no details about any of their roles, and the trailer doesn’t give away much in the way of a hint.

“mother!” will screen at both the Toronto International and Venice Film Festivals. The film is set to hit theaters on September 15.
