Disney•Pixar’s latest offering is a magical, heartfelt adventure set in the Land of the Dead. “Coco” is the story of a boy, his dog Tati, and a dream to be a talented musician; but everything changes when a special guitar takes the boy on an adventure to meet his ancestors. “Coco” follows Miguel, the young aspiring musician, who ends up in the Land of the Dead with his trusty dog, Tati. His loving, deceased family takes him to the Department of Family Reunions, where Miguel finds out he’s cursed. To return to his grandmother in the land of the living, he need a magical marigold petal and a living family member’s blessing. The catch? That blessing could spell the end of Miguel’s musical dream.
Anthony Gonzalez plays “Coco’s” young hero, with Gabriel Iglesias (“Magic Mike XXL”) portraying the busy Department of Family Reunions clerk. It’s all hands on deck for “Coco,” which features a big, star-studded voice cast. Gael García Bernal (“Mozart in the Jungle”), Benjamin Bratt (“Despicable Me 2”), Renée Victor (“Weeds”), Ana Ofelia Murguía (“Written on the Body of Night”), Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin”), Sofía Espinosa (“Gloria”), director Luis Valdez (“La Bamba”), Lombardo Boyar (“Happy Feet”), Edward James Olmos (“Dexter”), Alanna Ubach (“Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce”), Selene Luna (“My Bloody Valentine”), Alfonso Arau (“Romancing the Stone”), Herbert Siguenza (“Larry Crowne”), playwright Octavio Solis (“Prospect”), Cheech Marin (“Cars”) and Blanca Araceli (“Feeding Mr. Baldwin”) all lend their voices to the film.
The animated film is directed by Lee Unkrich (“Toy Story 3”) and Adrian Molina (“Monsters University”) and is produced by Darla K. Anderson (“Toy Story 3”).
