9

Welcome to the Awards Circuit podcast titled “CIRCUIT BREAKER!,” a weekly podcast from AwardsCircuit.com featuring host Clayton Davis along with panelists Sam Coffey, Mark Johnson, Joey Magidson, and Karen Peterson. We discuss movies, television and all the awards shows that need predicting. New episodes are released every Monday.

Find us on Twitter at @Circuit_Pod, email us at podcast@awardscircuit.com, and submit your comments and questions at the bottom of the episode.

On the agenda:

  • The release of Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!” has divided the cinematic world.  We do an in-depth talk about the film’s messaging, highs, and lows.  Is it an Oscar player?
  • A new trailer dropped for Ridley Scott’s “All the Money in the World,” which made of some of us begin to consider Kevin Spacey and Michelle Williams in a few categories.
  • Jamie Lee Curtis is returning to the “Halloween” franchise and we discuss this “final installment.”
  • Questions coming from the readers as always.

    Enjoy!

  • For those of you who don’t want “mother!” spoilers, skip from around the 8:30 mark to 50:45 so that you skip all the spoilers and get to the Halloween madness and Oscar chat.

Okay I have a game for the next episode. Dunno why this sounded fun to me.
But in tradition of Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween being the ultimate “final girl”.
The game is thus – I will give you 3 ladies I love, and you will decide between the three who will be the first one to die and who would be the “final girl”?

Cannot wait to hear what you think:

    The Scream Queens Division
    Jamie Lee Curtis
    Sigourney Weaver
    Heather Legenkamp

    The Ladies Of TV Division
    Ann Dowd
    Sarah Paulson

    The Singing Division

    Bette Midler
    Cher

    Natalie Portman
    Jennifer Connoley

    Lars Von Trier Ladies Division

At this point, which of these doubles is more likely to present the Best Director Oscar?

    Cuarón and Inarritu
    Tom Hardy and Michael Cane
    Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep

  • Raul Gama

Guys, you already discussed Good Time wouldn’t contend even with all the high praise, but as people declare a weak best actor race, do you think Pattinson can get in? All of His cittaions bring up Oscar worthy or at list a nomination.

  • Daniel Digati

Does Colin Farrell has any chances at a nomination for killing of a sacred deer

  • Luke McGowan

Following on from Clayton’s remarks about pulling the trigger too fast on J-Law, who are some other actors/directors the Academy has pulled the trigger too fast on (i.e. Christoph Waltz’s second, perhaps). Conversely, who is someone the Academy has waited too long to pull the trigger on (Gary Oldman certainly fits the bill!)

    Circuit Breaker Question:

Has there been a time where you felt ‘cheated’ out of a moviegoing experience because you knew ahead of time how a movie was going to end, and the ending was super important? For example, I feel like I will never truly be able to experience Citizen Kane, Psycho or The Blair Witch Project because I knew exactly where everything was headed.

On that note, thank you Karen for putting up a spoiler timecode in the comments of the last episode. Was able to listen to half the podcast before going back to it once I saw mother!, and that was a movie I definitely didn’t want spoiled.

On another note, I have been hanging around this website for a looooong time, and yet that mother! episode might just be my favorite. That was a seriously great conversation, and I will definitely be remembering it in the future.

Glad you enjoyed Ryan. We aim to please!
