Order’s up, “Bob’s Burgers”! 20th Century Fox announced Wednesday that the animated series is officially getting a feature film, set for release in 2020. The series has been a critically acclaimed jewel in Fox’s crown, earning Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Animated Series this year and back in 2014. The film will be produced by Fox Animation.
According to Deadline, showrunner Loren Bouchard is excited and a little nervous about the news, saying:
We’re thrilled to be invited to bring Bob’s Burgers to the big screen. We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!
20th Century Fox chairman and CEO Stacy Snider threw her support behind the film project, thanking Fox Television Group chairman Gary Newman and Dana Walden for “trusting us” with “Bob’s Burgers.” Newman and Walden also expressed their excitement:
“What a year for Bob’s Burgers! First, the Emmy Award for Best Animated Series and now, an amazing opportunity for the gifted Loren Bouchard to take the Belcher family to movies. Loren, Jim and their talented team continue to knock it out of the park week after week, and seven years in, the show is still growing. Working with Stacey and everyone at the feature studio, we know this important property is in the best possible hands.”
“Bob’s Burgers” follows the Belcher family as they live, love, and flip burgers at their seaside restaurant. Patriarch Bob, played by H. John Benjamin (“Archer”), keeps the shop up and running with his wife Linda, played by John Roberts (“Gravity Falls”); meanwhile, their three kids Tina, played by Dan Mintz (“The Awesomes”), Gene played by Eugene Mirman (“Delocated”) and Louise, played by Kristen Schaal (“The Last Man on Earth”) struggle with the growing pains of childhood.
The “Bob’s Burgers” film will premiere July 17, 2020.
