Louis C.K. returns to the director’s chair for his first feature film since 2001’s “Pootie Tang.”
The Orchard released the first poster today for his new film, “I Love You, Daddy.”
“I Love You, Daddy” tells the story of a successful television writer. He finds himself in an uncomfortable situation when his daughter falls in love with a questionable, older filmmaker.
Louis C.K. directed and co-wrote the script with award-winning comedy writer Vernon Chatman. His credits include “The Chris Rock Show,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” and “Jackass: The Movie.”
Louis C.K. has also won a number of awards, including several Primetime Emmys for his standup specials and his FX series “Louie.” He has had roles in a number of films, too, including “Blue Jasmine,” “American Hustle.”
“I Love You, Daddy” features a cast of well-known actors. Newly crowned Emmy-winner Pamela Adlon (“Better Things”), Chloë Grace Moretz (“Neighbors 2”), Rose Byrne (“Spy”), Edie Falco (“Megan Leavey”) and Helen Hunt (“Shots Fired”) all appear. In addition, Charlie Day (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and John Malkovich (“RED”) also star.
Another aspect that adds to the intrigue of the director’s latest directorial work, the film was shot in 35mm black and white.
The Orchard is distributing the film. They previously distributed Academy Award-nominated documentaries “Cartel Land” and “Life, Animated.” In addition, they distributed Taika Waititi’s “Hunt for the Wilderpeople.”
The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. It will screen in limited release beginning November 17. It will expand to a wider audience December 1.
