Amy Sherman-Palladino (“Gilmore Girls”) is back with a new TV series, and it’ll have you toasting one of the funniest comics to ever grace Johnny Carson’s couch. Amazon Prime Video has just announced the official premiere date for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” written and directed by Sherman-Palladino alongside Daniel Palladino (“Family Guy”), who executive produced. According to The Mary Sue, Amazon has already greenlit the series for two full seasons and after watching the trailer, I can certainly see why.

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” follows the life of Miriam “Midge” Maisel, the perfect 1950s Jewish housewife with two kids, a swanky Upper West Side apartment, and the husband of her dreams…or so she thinks. When her husband leaves her, Midge stumbles onto a secret talent in the midst of her despair- stand up comedy. The perfect housewife becomes a dirty comic that leaves her audience in stitches while she leaves in handcuffs, carving a new path to fortune that lands her on “The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson.” Midge reminds me of Sherman-Palladino’s most famous characters, Rory and Lorelai from the critical hit “Gilmore Girls,” and audiences seem to agree, giving the previously released pilot episode a 4.8/5 audience rating.

Rachel Brosnahan (“Patriots Day”) shines as Midge, with Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”) ushering her to fame as Susie Myerson, according to Deadline. Tony Shalhoub (“Monk”), Marin Hinkle (“Two and a Half Men”) and Michael Zegen (“Boardwalk Empire”) portray Midge’s father Abe, mother Rose, and deadbeat husband Joel, respectively.

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” officially premieres Nov. 29 on Amazon, but you can watch the pilot episode now if you’re an Amazon Prime member. See the trailer below.
