Jon Bernthal stars as Frank Castle, who becomes the vigilante known as “The Punisher” after his family is murdered. Bernthal was introduced in the role on the second season of Marvel’s “Daredevil.” He was such an instant fan favorite that Netflix spun off a new series to tell his story.
Bernthal is no stranger to television. He has appeared in a number of series including “The Class,” “Law and Order: SVU,” and “Eastwick.” But it was his role as the villainous (or misunderstood) Shane Walsh in “The Walking Dead” that set his career on a new path. He has also appeared in a number of films from “The Wolf of Wall Street” to this year’s “Wind River” and “Baby Driver.” He is also set to star in the untitled sequel to “The Accountant,” as well as Damien Chazelle’s next film, “First Man.”
The series also stars Jason R. Moore (“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“Girls”), Michael Nathanson (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), and Jaime Ray Newman (“Bates Motel”).
There is no word yet on whether any of The Defenders will make an appearance.
The series was created by Steve Lightfoot. He previously produced several other television shows and mini-series including, “House of Saddam” and “Hannibal.”
All thirteen episodes of Marvel’s “The Punisher” will be available on Netflix on November 17.
