“Good parenting” is getting an insidious upgrade on the upcoming season of “Black Mirror.”
Netflix released a short trailer and poster this weekend for the anthology series’ episode “Arkangel,” which features directing from Jodie Foster (“Silence of the Lambs”) and actor Rosemarie DeWitt (“La La Land”), according to Deadline. The teaser trailer follows a young mother (DeWitt) and her child, who temporarily vanishes from the local playground. Though the girl is quickly returned to her frantic mother, she vows to never go through that fear again.
We see only glimpses at her solution- a doctor talking about an experimental treatment, the words “the key to good parenting is control,” and a syringe piercing the young girl’s head. Since it’s “Black Mirror,” the answer to control will surely horrify and captivate its audience.
A previous trailer for “Black Mirror’s” upcoming season, featured glimpses at all six of the upcoming season’s episodes, according to Independent (watch above). The upcoming episode titles, paired with teasing shots of the wildly different stories, are “Crocodile, “Hang the DJ,” “USS Callister, “Metalhead,” “Black Museum” and of course “Arkangel.”
This will be the third Netflix series Foster has directed episodes of, previously helming episodes from “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black.” The actor and director told the BBC that “Arkangel” will delve into “a mother-daughter relationship and that kind of beautiful and troubling symbiotic bond between the two.” She also told Empire that “Arkangel” is “raw and real, like an indie movie,” in juxtaposition to the more colorful, Star Trek inspired “USS Callister.”
“Black Mirror” premieres on Netflix in 2018. Watch the teaser trailer below.
