The Utah Film Critics Association announced their 2017 winners over the weekend, and some of their selections were a bit surprising.

A Ghost Story” is their choice for Best Picture of the year, with director David Lowery coming in as runner up for Best Director to Christopher Nolan for “Dunkirk.” They also praised Andy Serkis and his work in “War for the Planet of the Apes” by giving him the top acting prize. Other awards went to Tatiana Maslany for her supporting work in “Stronger,” and to “Thelma” for non-English language film.
