Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society Chooses ‘The Shape of Water’ as Best of 2017

The Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society announced their inaugural award winners on Tuesday.

LAOFCS was founded last year to support Los Angeles-based online film critics. Their main goal is to support diversity in the world of film journalism. The group will hold an awards ceremony on January 10 in Los Angeles.

Their inaugural Best Picture winner is “The Shape of Water,” for which director Guillermo del Toro also won Best Male Director. That film won four awards in all, including Sally Hawkins for Best Actress and Alexandre Desplat for Original Score. Greta Gerwig and “Lady Bird” were also celebrated for Best Independent Film and Best Female Director.

LAOFCS includes a wide range of categories including Visual Effects Performance and Best Blockbuster.
