The first images from Season 2 of Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” features a blood-soaked Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men”) and a snowy landscape in the dystopia of your nightmares.
According to a press release accompanying the images, Season 2 will follow Offred’s pregnancy and the brave heroine’s fight to free her unborn child from the clutches of Gilead. Aunt Lydia’s infamous saying “Gilead is within you” haunts the season as the handmaids continue to fight against–or, the synopsis warns, succumb to– the “dark truth” of Aunt Lydia’s statement. While details on Season 2 are limited, creator Bruce Miller (“The 100”) told EW that the upcoming season will explore the lives of refugees who escaped Gilead, along with those captured and sent to the polluted lands of the Colonies (see below). Season 2 will also feature a handmaid’s funeral (see cover photo), a “chilling” scene aided by real falling snow on the Canadian set.
Based on Margaret Atwood’s beloved novel of the same name, “The Handmaid’s Tale” is created, executive produced and written by Miller, with Warren Littlefield (“Fargo”), Daniel Wilson (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Fran Sears (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Ilene Chaiken (“Empire”) and Moss. The drama series comes to Hulu via MGM Television, who also handles international distribution. The series stars Moss, Joseph Fiennes (“American Horror Story”), Yvonne Strahovski (“Chuck”), Samira Wiley (“Orange Is The New Black”), Alexis Bledel (“Gilmore Girls”), Ann Dowd (“Compliance”), Max Minghella (“Horns”), Madeline Brewer (“Orange Is The New Black”), O-T Fagbenle (“The Five”) and Amanda Brugel (“Room”).
“The Handmaid’s Tale” has been a favorite amongst critics and audiences alike, winning two accolades for best TV drama series and best actress at Sunday’s Golden Globes. The series also won eight Primetime Emmys and the AFI Award for best TV program of the year for its sensational Season 1.
“The Handmaid’s Tale” returns for Season 2 in April on Hulu.
